
The goods, delivered by a special Envoy, led by the Hon. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Khadija Bukar Abba Ibrahim, was received by the Prime Minister of Cameroon, His Excellency, Philemon Yang on behalf of President Paul Biya.
Mr Yang expressed the appreciation of his country to President Muhammadu Buhari and extolled the President’s thoughtfulness in identifying with Cameroon at this Period when 80 lives were lost to the train accident and about 700 people were injured.
Speaking in Cameroon through the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Hajia Binta Adamu Bello, the Nigerian Health Minister, Prof. Isaac Adewole noted that all drugs donated were manufactured in Nigeria by indigenous Pharmaceutical Companies.
He said President Buhari was committed to empowering local pharmaceutical companies as part of the Change Agenda in the Health Sector, adding that the ultimate goal was to make Nigerian companies compete favorably with their foreign counterparts and make their products acceptable in the global market.
He therefore called on all the Nigerian manufacturers of Medical supplies to comply with internationally acceptable standards and maintain global best practices.
The drugs, which have a minimum shelf life of 18 months, comprise of Analgesics, Multivitamins, Antimicrobials, Antispasmodics, Pediatrics Medicines, Anthelmintic, Anti Diarrhea\Amobecide, Anti-Allergies, Corticosteroids, Anxiolytics, Anti –Malarials, Local Anesthetics, Antiemetic’s, Eye Drops\ointments, Infusions, Laxatives, Supplements and other consumables.
The team comprises of the Hon. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, who led the delegation and Permanent Secretary Health, Binta Adamu Bello, who represented the Health Minister.
Others were officials of the Health and Foreign Affairs Ministries.
