President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the Chinese President Xi Jinping on his re-election as General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and the leader of the nation.
The President expressed his conviction that the success of the 19th National Congress of the CPC and the implementation of its important decisions will serve to fulfil the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
A statement by Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), quoted President Buhari as saying: “Your widely acknowledged wise and firm leadership has played a critical role in the changes in China in the past five years and the renewal of your term will no doubt strengthen the unity of CPC and its central, unified leadership and further enhance cohesiveness of the Chinese nation.”
The Nigerian leader expressed belief in the capability of the CPC Leadership and President Xi to take China to a new level and enhance its standing around the globe in the next five years.
President Buhari also said that his fruitful meetings and frequent communications with President Xi had allowed the two countries to firmly commit to strong economic synergy and cooperative potentials.
The President praised the existing cordial relationship between China and Nigeria on one hand and with Africa as a whole, especially sustaining the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
He wished the re-elected Chinese leader a very successful second tenure.
In another development, Special Adviser to the President, Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, Thursday in Abuja commended Nigerians for the outpouring of prayers and show of goodwill to President Buhari since he returned to the country.
Receiving a delegation of well wishers to the President, led by Amb. Eze N. Ebere, Adesina, according to a statement by Attah Esa, Deputy Director (Information) State House, said President Buhari deeply appreciated the prayers during his ill health, and after his recovery, from both the Christian and Muslim communities.
The Special Adviser also said the positive reviews on the President’s handling of conflicts in various parts of the country had been most encouraging for the administration, noting that the President remains focused in serving Nigerians, and ensuring an improvement in the lives of all.
“The President really appreciates all the prayers, and will like to say a big thank you for your support for his leadership style and handling of the conflicts,’’ he said.
Adesina assured the delegation of the President’s commitment and transparent leadership style, promising to deliver a letter brought by the group.
In his remarks, the leader of the delegation, who is also the National Patron of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), said the association remains thankful to God for restoring the health of the President.
“We are here to commend the President over his leadership style, especially the way he handled the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) issue, and others, by ensuring that peace is restored across Nigeria,’’ Ebere said.
He pledged the association’s continued support for President Buhari’s administration.
The Justice of the Peace, an association, gave Adesina a special recognition as a “Peace Conservator’’.
