A group, Okpo Club of Nigeria, an association of Ikwerre Lawyers, has begun the necessary moves to reconcile two prominent Ikwerre sons, Governor Nyesom Wike and former governor and now Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, who are locked in a bitter misunderstanding.
Professor Nlerum Okogbule, disclosed this while fielding questions from newsmen at the Celebration of 40years of Legal Practice of Hon. Onueze Okocha (SAN) and Inaugural Okpo Club Awards held in Port Harcourt, on Tuesday.
Prof. Okogbule who was the chairman of the organizing committee, however, did not explain the moves but assured that there had been positive moves to reconcile the two prominent Ikwerre sons.
He said that if the reconciliation materializes, it would go a long way in dousing tension and bringing peace not only in Ikwerre land but the entire Rivers State.
He also said that the Ikwerre people were grateful to former Governor Peter Odili for helping in realizing Ikwerre governorship and to this end, the group honoured him with the award of ‘Enyioma Eli Iwhuruohna”
In his speech at the occasion, Governor Wike said that he deserves the honour of the people.
He commended Chief OCJ Okocha for mentoring young lawyers to be worthy legal practitioners.
In his own speech, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Moses Wifa said that Chief OCJ Okocha deserves the honour because he is a bridge between old and young lawyers.
Former Rivers State Governor, Sir Celestine Omehia said Chief OCJ Okocha is a living icon who has contributed to the development of the state.
In his remarks, Chief OCJ Okocha said he will remain committed to the promotion of access to justice and the rule of law.
He assured that he will continue to join other lawyers and members of the bench to enhance the Independence of the Judiciary.
The celebrant stated that he will always serve as an inspiration to others to join the legal profession.
A book titled: ‘Opening and Enriching the Channels of Justice in the Nigerian Society”, written in honour of Chief OCJ Okocha was launched at the occasion.
The book was reviewed by the Vice Chancellor of University of Uyo, Prof Enefiok Essien.
The event attracted seasoned legal practitioners, politicians, traditional rulers and top government officials.
