Peter Obi celebrates Papal Nuncio to Czech Republic, Archbishop Okolo

Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi has commended His Grace, Most Rev Jude Thaddeus Okolo, the Apostolic Nuncio to the Czech Republic “for holding the flag of our nation high, and for exemplifying ethical leadership and integrity.”

Mr. Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State gave the commendation in a tweet where he stated that he had been part of the celebration of the 40th priestly anniversary and 15th year as Papal Nuncio of Archbishop Okolo in Nnewi, Anambra State.

Archbishop Okolo was the First Papal Nuncio from Nigeria and West Africa, and the only African to have served as Nuncio to the Republic of Ireland.

An apostolic nuncio (also known as a papal nuncio or simply as a nuncio is an ecclesiastical diplomat, serving as an envoy or a permanent diplomatic representative of the Holy See to a state or to an international organization (an Ambassador).

Archbishop Okolo has served as Nuncio in many developed countries and today, he is considered the highest-ranking Papal Nuncio in Africa, having spent 33 years in the Holy See’s diplomatic service.

Mr. Obi said further that “Archbishop Okolo is widely known as a lover of peace and a bridge builder who transcends religious boundaries to serve God and humanity. He, like many other Nigerians representing Nigeria positively on the global stage, deserves to be celebrated for showing an example of good values and living out exemplary characters. I celebrate him for holding the flag of our nation high, and for exemplifying ethical leadership and integrity.”
