AfDB President, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina, wins African of the Decade Award; Okonjo-Iweala hails

President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina has won the inaugural African of the Decade Award.
The former Minister of Agriculture of Nigeria, who is serving his second term as President of the AfDB won the Award instituted by the All Africa Business Leaders Awards (AABLA) in collaboration with Consumer News and Business Channel Africa (CNBC Africa).
This is the 12th edition of the AABLA, but the first time that the African of the Decade Award is being given out by the internationally reputed organization.
Dr. Adesina became the first winner of this inaugural African of the Decade Award on account of his single minded commitment to the development of the Africa continent, especially in the areas of Agriculture, Power, Industrialization, Integration and Mobilization of multilateral institutions and other agencies, Foundations and individuals to contribute to the rapid development of the continent.
Dr. Adesina has devoted efforts towards such initiatives as Light Up Africa and Power Africa (targeting provision of electricity to 300 million Africans), Feed Africa (aimed at eradicating hunger and poverty), Industrialize Africa, Integrate Africa and the clean cooking program, projected to save the lives of 600,000 Africans, mainly women and children each year, for which the AfDB recently pledged $2 billion over 10 years.
The equally trail blazing Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who was recently reappointed for a second term in office, has congratulated Dr. Adesina on his winning of the coveted Award.
She posted on her X (former Twitter) handle: “Congratulations to my brother Akin Adesina @akin_adesina for his wonderful award of African of the Decade by Forbes Africa and CNBC Africa!!! So well done.”
