Deputy Governor of Edo state Dr. Pius Odubu, Tuesday, came under fire from his supporters across the state for not challenging results of the recently-concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary which he contested along with Barr Kenneth Imansuagbon and Engr. Chris Ogiemwonyi.
Odubu, who was been described as the leading contestant prior to the poll, however, lost to Godwin Obaseki whose emergence, is being contested at the moment.
Our correspondent learnt that a meeting of all Odubu’s coordinators across the state called by the Deputy Governor to pacify them on the need to show understanding in the present circumstance, fell on deaf ears.
It was further gathered that his supporters vow that unless the primary was thoroughly investigated and justice done, they will have difficulty accepting the results particularly as it has become public knowledge that the primary was manipulated to favour Obaseki.
It was also complained that the manner in which Obaseki’s group had conducted itself since the primary does not show that they will need others, further citing the divisive attitude displayed by them during the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration.
“From available information it’s clear that the Odubu camp which has remained silent since after the primary may not be taken for granted unless something is done in the ongoing investigation by the Appeals committee as a lot of them feel that the results did not reflect the wishes of the delegates.
“Dr Odubu could be at crossroads at the moment as his efforts to convince his followers may not yield the desired results ahead of the September 10 Governorship election in Edo State.
“It’s hoped that the leadership of the party will move in quickly to ensure proper reconciliation if it wants to go into election as a united front,” he said.
