APC sacks state chairman, deputy, others in Bayelsa for anti-party activities

NEDU MARK, Yenagoa

Ahead of the 2016 governorship election in Bayelsa State, the crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State deepened as the national leadership of the party has sacked the state chairman, Tiwei Oruinimghe, his deputy, Eddy Julius, and former state secretary Daniel Marlin over allegations of anti-party activities.

The APC also suspended the former chairman of Sagbama Local Government Council, Peres Peretu and another stalwart, Tokpo Coronation.

The directive was contained in a document signed by the publicity secretary, Teddy Edwin.

It would be recalled that last week, the party expelled two chieftains, Perekeme Kpodoh and Sunday Frank-Oputu, accusing them of working against the party.

APC also suspended seven others, including Godwin Sidi, Fred Akamu, Rosemary Okeazi, Livinus Opratapu, Harrow Zuokumo, Enoch Koripamo and Christopher Abariowei, for similar reasons.

Edwin explained that the sanctions on the chairman, his deputy and others was sequel to resolutions reached by elected members of the APC in the state, under the aegis of The Integrity Group, at a meeting at the party’s secretariat in Yenagoa.

“The state chairman, Timipa Orunimighe Tiwei, is hereby expelled as chairman for gross misconduct, abuse of office, high-handedness, arrogance and anti-party activities”, he said.

He said Julius was expelled for “aiding and abetting anti-party activities” while Marlin was expelled “for parading himself as the state secretary of APC after resigning his office to contest for a seat in the state House of Assembly in the last general elections.”

Edwin said Coronation was suspended alongside those who resigned their positions to also contest for seats in the House of Assembly in the last elections but were still parading themselves as party officials.

He also explained that Peretu was suspended for accepting to preside over an illegal committee set up by Orunimighe, Julius and Marlin, to sanction founding elders of APC in the state.

The Publicity Secretary announced that a chieftain of the party, Sidi Godwin, would take over as acting chairman “to reposition the party strategically towards the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Bayelsa State.”
