Two journalists in Bauchi state sustained mild injuries when a group of politicians had their planned press conference disrupted by some political thugs suspected to be loyal to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi on Thursday morning.
The group had earlier appeared at the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Bauchi for their planned event when the thugs stormed the premises to disrupt the conference.
The hoodlums attacked the secretariat of the union at 10:40 am where they went haywire attacking journalists by throwing chairs, inflicting injuries on them.
The message of the press conference was not immediately known but it was believed that some factional members of the APC may call for the dissolution of the state executives of the party.
Our correspondent reports that the thugs hurled stones and chairs at journalists and others at the press conference in a bid to stop the event from holding.
It took the intervention of police men led by the public relations officer Ahmed Wakili who visited the secretariat to bring succour to the journalists and the organizers of the press conference.
Some of the culprits fled the scene to avoid arrest by the police men while the rest were taken to the zone 12 headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force (AIG’s office) in the state where the case is being handled.
