Few days after the arrest of Mafa Local Government Caretaker Chairman, Alhaji Shettima Maina for allegedly harbouring a Boko Haram Commander, the military has arrested the Vice Chairman of Bama Local Government Area over alleged cattle rustling.

Confirming the two arrests, the Theater Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Lucky Irabor at a Press Conference said “investigations revealed that the Chairman Mafa Local Government Area was arrested for alleged harbouring of Boko Haram terrorists member”.

He said “the fact that the chairman was known for supporting the military in fighting Boko Haram terrorists, does not exonerate him from committing crime.” The Theater Commander in previous press briefings has been continuously emphasizing that anybody linked with aiding Boko Haram or harboring the fleeing Boko Haram will be treated as same.

He said the chairman was harboring one Boko Haram insurgent with his father in his residence and the fact that he has been valuable to the civilian JTF and the military does not exonerate him from venturing into another crime.

General Irabor also confirmed the arrest of the Vice Chairman of Kaga Local Government area, saying that “yes the Vice Chairman was arrested by our troops and he is in our custody, while investigation is on-going and we will inform you appropriately on further investigation.

During the press briefing, the Theater Commander also paraded 10 Boko Haram terrorists between the ages of 15 and 60, who surrendered to their troops, adding that four out of the surrendered Boko Haram members are from the Manman Nur camp while the remaining 6 belong to the Shekau camp.

One of the Boko Haram leaders, Amirul Doki said “we were in Sambiza forest but we pulled out of the forest along with our factional leader Mamman Nur to Kangar area, where he deceived us that we are going to surrender, but unfortunately he did not, hence the reason of our surrendering.”.

He called on other Boko Haram terrorists out there to come out and surrender to the military, as they will not be killed, adding that if they had known that if they surrender they will be accepted the way they were, they would have surrender earlier.

Another surrendered Boko Haram terrorist, Joseph David aka Ibrahim Dan Lajina said he was captured by Boko Haram insurgents around Mubi area and that he took part in many Boko Haram attacks and called on those still fighting in the bushes to come out and surrender.

General Irabor stated that during the last one week they rescued 1,400 persons, while 5 Boko Haram members surrendered, pointing out that they also recovered many arms and ammunitions.
