Assassination attempt on Rivers APC guber running mate: MOSOP appalled, calls for thorough investigation
The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has condemned the assassination attempt on Dr. Innocent Barikor, the running mate of the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rives State.
In a statement by Fegalo Nsuke, its President, MOSOP condoled with the family of the Police officer attached to Dr. Barikor who was killed during the incident and called for a thorough investigation into what it called “a return to the dark days of political violence and killings ahead of the 2023 elections.”
Nsuke said in the statement that MOSOP “is appalled by the sad news of an assassination attempt on Dr. Innocent Barikor, the running mate to the gubernatorial flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State.
“Our condolences to the family of the police officer attached to him who unfortunately was shot and killed in the incident.
“While we await the report of police investigations into the attack, we are deeply saddened and strongly condemn a return to the dark days of political violence and killings ahead of the 2023 elections.
“We charge the police to conduct a thorough investigation and will hope the report of the investigation is made public.
“We urge citizens to be more vigilant and report suspicious activities to the security agencies.
“MOSOP will decide on what further steps should be taken in due course.”
