CARICOM Secretary-General recognises Belize’s milestone Independence Anniversary, commitment to regional integration

Dr Carla Barnett, Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), has conveyed a congratulatory message to the Honourable John Briceño, Prime Minister of Belize, in celebration of the Forty-fourth Anniversary of Belize’s Independence, observed on 21 September 2025.

In her message, Dr Barnett extended congratulations on behalf of the Caribbean Community to the Government and People of Belize, commending the nation’s enduring commitment to unity and development. She noted that this year’s theme, “Belize@44 – Stronger Together, Rising Forever”, aptly reflects the country’s collective spirit and forward-looking approach to national development.

“Prime Minister,

On behalf of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), I extend warmest congratulations to the Government and People of Belize on your nation’s Forty-fourth Anniversary of Independence.

This year’s theme “Belize@44 – Stronger Together, Rising Forever”, underscores a collective approach to national development, which bodes well for Belize’s continued growth.

We applaud Belize’s recent commitment to the full implementation of the free movement of nationals. This action is a practical demonstration of your country’s deep belief in our regional integration movement and the value of unity.  You can also be assured of the Community’s continued commitment to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Belize.  Furthermore, Belize’s position as a vital bridge between CARICOM and Central America is invaluable.

On this Forty-fourth Anniversary of Independence, CARICOM celebrates with the Government and People of Belize, and extends best wishes for the continued progress, peace, and well-being of all Belizeans.”
