Bayelsa state Commissioner of Police, Asuquo Amba on Wednesday charged members of Police Officers Wives Association, POWA, to use the skills acquired through the Food, Safety and Sanitation training workshop to improve the standard of their homes and humanity.
Amba spoke in Yenagoa on Wednesday while declaring the workshop open at the International Institute of Tourism and Hospitality.
The Commissioner, who thanked the Rector of the Institute, Mr. Samuel Timi-Johnson and the entire staff of the Institute for training POWA women assured the Rector that a detailed report of the training will be forwarded to the Force Headquarters, Abuja, with a view to replicating the exercise in other State Commands.
Members of POWA, Bayelsa State Chapter participated in a three day training workshop from Wednesday to Friday on Food, Safety and Sanitation organized in collaboration with the International Institute of Tourism and Hospitality under the leadership of POWA Chairperson, Mrs. Janet Amba.
Speaking at the event, Brigadier General Kelvin Aligbe of 16 Brigade, Yenagoa, commended POWA for organizing the programme and stressed that the ability of officers to perform optimally at work is related to their wives effort at the home front.
Brigadier Gen. Kelvin Aligbe who was the Special guest of honor was represented by the Chief of Staff 16 Brigade, Col Alex Tawasimi.
Also speaking, Rector of the Institute, Mr Samuel Tim-Johnson charged the participants to take the training session seriously so that they can understand the dynamics of the recent trends, which remains the best way forward to protect our officers and men who daily pay the supreme price for a greater Nigeria.“
Tim-Johnson commended the leadership of POWA, especially the State Chairperson and the Secretary for having the fore- sight to key into this programme and for mobilizing its members to participate in the training.
Earlier, Secretary of POWA Nurse Mrs. Ebenuwa John who represented the POWA Chairperson Mrs. Janet Amba, commended the Institute for giving POWA the opportunity to learn about food safety and sanitation.
Speaking at the end of the workshop, wife of the Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Command, and a participant at the workshop, Mrs. Lily Butswat narrated her experience, saying, “I’m privileged to attend the training and I’ve learnt a lot about food storage, food hygiene, how to regulate food temperature and maintain sanitary standard in the kitchen and at home”
