Governor Seriake Dickson has ordered the eight Council Chairmen in the state as well as political appointees to relocate to their constituencies immediately and work for the victory of the party, ahead of the forthcoming December 5 governorship election.

Dickson is seeking re-election as governor for a second term to occupy the Government House under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He is expected to formally declare his political intentions come Tuesday in Yenagoa, at the Sports Complex.

The governor issued the directive to the local council chairmen at a meeting held with all political appointees at the Banquet Hall, just as he called for loyalty and sacrifice in their efforts to collectively work as a team to canvass support for his re-election.

“The time has come for all ambassadors of the Restoration government to give back to the party what that they have benefitted from for over 3 years and embark on what I call “Operation Deliver Your Wards and Local Governments.

“Now, more than ever before, you have got to connect with our people beginning from your communities, constituencies, wards, local governments and the rest of the state. The report that I have is that, local government chairmen do not stay in their local government areas. Yesterday, I have given them marching orders that, from now on, they should reside in their local government headquarters and preside over party affairs and not in Yenagoa anymore.

“This is a game of service and you don’t do it alone; you play it with others. There is no man who is strong enough to make himself a political leader. You have got to tell the Restoration story louder than ever before.

“As a government, we have not failed our people. I will be the last to acknowledge that we have solved all the problems of our people but we have shown commitment to making a difference and this is collective responsibility.

“So go into the state with zeal and commitment and tell the people our record of achievements with pride,” said the governor.

Governor Dickson also assured that he would formally announce his intention to contest for a second term on the 8th of this month, further urging the party faithful and supporters to engage in issue-based campaigns, bordering on security, development and unity of the people.

Dickson, charged local government council chairmen to reach out to the people in order to avoid creating factions within the party, stressing that the PDP remains the dominant party in the state.

Commenting on the strength of the PDP in the state, Dickson pointed out that the membership of the opposition party were all governorship aspirants, emphasizing that a party without followers cannot stand the test of time.

Dickson enjoined those who have defected from the PDP to retrace their steps, noting that the PDP’s umbrella is big enough to accommodate them as they had contributed in the past to the success of the party.

Earlier, Director General of the Restoration Campaign Team and Member of the House of Representative , Chief Fred Agbedi, said the campaign office of the PDP would be formally inaugurated on the 7th of this month as he charged members of the party to work hard to ensure victory for the party.

Also In his separate speech, Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Chief Fyneman Wilson, tasked members of the party on the need to sensitize the people to collect their Permanent Voter’s Card to enable them cast their votes.
