CHINEDU WOSU, YENAGOA.
The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Bayelsa state has condemned the cases of violence and bloodletting carried out by the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the state.
The party in an emergency meeting in Yenagoa led by the state Chairman,Hon. Cleopas Moses. Z and the publicity secretary Barr. Makbere Osom condemned the sad situation which has resulted in the death of some APC party faithful.
PDP in a statement by its chairman, Hon. Cleopas Moses. Z. and the secretary Barr. Makbere Osom said the fight for supremacy between the two warring factions of the APC that led to the exchange of gunfire in the streets of Yenagoa shows that the APC plays do-or-die politics. Saying that the recorded violence was an embarrassment to Bayelsans and a threat to grassroots democracy.
According to the statement, members of the PDP in the state are worried about the cases of violence which resulted in reported deaths and injury to Bayelsans in the name of politics. The statement noted that violence has become the recurring decimal in almost all APC activities in the state, citing the instances of the 2015 gubernatorial primaries, the 2017 non elective congresses and the attempted inauguration of their Acting chairman on August 18th, 2017 that led to bloodletting.
The statement further pointed out that this same unrepentant, predominantly violent nature played out in the last Bayelsa state gubernatorial elections where innocent people were killed in SILGA, Ekeremor, Brass and other places which it said was not necessary since the APC was no match for the then PDP candidate, Gov. Henry Seriake Dickson
They said the trend of violence is a disturbing development as it raises concerns as to what the APC might be planning for future elections considering that they cannot match the PDP in the state in a free and fair contest. They called on the Commissioner of Police and other sister security agencies not to relent in their efforts to see that the culprits are found and brought to justice in accordance with the laws of the land.
The Chairman and his EXCO reiterated the effort of Governor Henry Seriake Dickson in sustaining harmony and peaceful coexistence of all citizens of the state, while calling on PDP members, supporters, followers, lovers and well- meaning Bayelsans to throw all their allegiance to the leader of the party in the state, Rt. Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson in order to consolidate on the development of the state.
Cleopas said the party members should identify and shun divisive characters attempting to crop up to struggle for the State’s party leadership only for their selfish political interests.
