The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Bayelsa State, Mr Moses Cleopas has challenged former Governor Timipre Sylva to test the true popularity of his party, All Progressives Congress, APC, with the people of the State through the ballot box.
He said a situation whereby someone who claims to be popular in the State is always afraid to expose himself or his candidates to the will of the people shows his lack of confidence in his standing with the people.
According to the PDP Chairman, “Sylva always resorts to violent means as a way of gaining electoral advantage, just as he tried to do in 2015 and failed but was eventually aided by the military this time around.”
Cleopas stated that using common criminals and thugs to sack a major community like Nembe Bassambiri in Nembe Local Government Area, just to be able to manipulate elections because of his manifest unpopularity, is a disgrace to the high office of Governor he has held in the State.
Stressing that, “in a free and fair electoral contest, all PDP candidates for the various elections will roundly defeat the APC candidates,” he said that that is the reason Timipre Sylva has commissioned some of his agents (names withheld), “to use arms to kill and maim community members in order to scare people away while they do as they liked with electoral materials.”
