Beheading of Police Inspector sparks fear in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State

The beheading of Inspector Osang, a police personnel, allegedly by more than 10 hoodlums has instilled fear among residents of Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State. The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at the Inspector’s residence on a street connecting Even Afaha and Afaha Ube in Uyo.

Although details surrounding the killing are still unclear, it was reported that the armed assailants entered the victim’s residence, firing shots indiscriminately. The shooting prompted residents and passersby to flee for safety. This unfortunate event marks the fourth gruesome killing in the state within the past two weeks.

Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Odiko MacDon, confirmed the incident, expressing the Police’s commitment to investigating the matter and eliminating criminal elements from the streets. The recent spate of violent incidents in the state include the dismemberment of a young lady’s body, the killing of a woman at Banking Layout, Udo Udoma Avenue, and the dumping of a man’s lifeless body at Ikot Oku Ikono junction in Uyo.

Mr. MacDon said further that: “We have received that information and it is an unfortunate situation.

“Already, investigation is ongoing and we are committed to ridding the streets of criminal elements. Again, we are not deterred and we are committed to ensuring that criminal-minded persons will account for their actions.”
