Boko Haram: Army opens media office in Maiduguri

ABDULLAHI ISAH, Maiduguri

For effective counter insurgency war in the North-East, the Nigerian Army has opened a media centre in Maiduguri for effective dissemination of information from the theatre of war as they occur.

While declaring open the centre Thursday, the Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Yusha`u Abubakar said the establishment of the centre followed a directive of the Chief of Army Staff Lt. General Tukur Buratai.

The Theater Commander who was represented by the General Officer Commanding 7 Division, Major General Lami Adeosun said the press is are partners in the war against insurgency, hence the need for effective collaboration between the press and the army for effective dissemination of information to the general public.

He said “since the commencement of the war against insurgency, the press has done well in reporting the activities at the theatre of war but with the establishment of the media centre, the general public will be more informed, as they get information from the theatre of war as they happen.”

General Yushau said the military needs the cooperation of the general public and the media, as no war will be won without the cooperation of the general populace and that this can be achieve through proper communication and information.
