Troops made up of the Nigerian Army, Police and other security agencies have successfully repelled an attack on Jakana village of Konduga local government area of Borno state along the major Maiduguri- Kano road. The road is the busiest road linking Maiduguri, the Borno state capital and other parts of the country.
Confirming the incident, the Borno State Police command in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Edet Okon said “yesterday being 26/07/18 at about 1742 hrs, Boko Haram terrorists in about 30 vehicles launched attack on Jakana, Konduga L.G.A. of Borno State”.
The statement further said Police combat units of SARS and CTU were deployed for reinforcement and the insurgents were successfully repelled by security forces.
DSP Okon said details of the attack will be made available to members of press as soon as possible.
A resident of the town, Mrs Amina Labor who fled for her safety told our Correspondent that the insurgents who came at about 6:00 pm on Thursday in many vehicles targeted military and police formations before speeding into the village.
“I cannot tell the number of casualties, because when the shooting became intense, we fled the town for our safety,” she added.
It would be recalled that despite the recent arrest of some Boko Haram kingpins who participated in the abduction of the Chibok schoolgirls as well as in attacks and bombings, the insurgents have intensified attacks on Borno state in recent times.
