Breakaway not best option for Ndigbo- APC Chieftain; Says no to Igbo presidency in 2019

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu state, Emperor Baywood Ibe has advised the Igbo, especially the separatist agitators to perish the idea and rather go for the restructuring of the country.
Ibe spoke to journalists in Enugu Tuesday about his reconciliation with former Governor of Enugu state, Sullivan Chime and the current realignment by his party to take over Enugu state in 2019, as well as efforts to reposition the zone for strategic national politics.
“Why are we trying to break away from this part of the world called Nigeria, because of what? What sheer strength do we have as a nation?
I believe that being part of a larger Nigeria will benefit the Igbo man more than anybody but provided always that we do politics the right way. We should do politics the right way and not politics of individualism and politics of self interest,” he asserted.
On the call in some quarters for Ndigbo to contest presidency in 2019, he counseled the people of the South East geo-political zone of the country to put their house together first before making any dash to the presidency of Nigeria in the future.
The business mogul, one of those that recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC stated that 2019 being close at hand, it would make more sense for Ndigbo to concentrate more on building their strength and playing “good” politics to reposition the zone, in order to be ready for the ultimate trophy anytime beyond 2019.
“As an Igbo nation, we have to get ourselves together first of all before we start talking about Igbo presidency. When you are not together how can you now propagate to become the Igbo president?
Definitely I think the position the man should take right now is to rally themselves together, speak with one voice, be strategic in our plans; we cannot play to the gallery, or play with the euphoria of the moment.
“Euphoria of the moment is not the solution, I think the solution is as a nation we have to go back to the drawing board and plan and think; we have master strategists all over the world, we have people that we can put together, we have the best brains within and outside Nigeria, why don’t we bring our people in Diaspora, why not we bring our people within Nigeria and really brainstorm which way forward, both politicians and technocrats and bureaucrats; and brainstorm on the way forward for the Igbo man before we say we are plunging into the presidency?,” he said.
The APC chieftain also supported calls for the restructuring of the country to make it develop faster and reduce growing tension leading to calls for break up.
“I believe that restructuring is the way to go. What does this mean? We will still be part of the united Nigeria but we are governed by our regional wealth, our regional strength. I’m one of the proponents of a weak centre because the so much power, the so much jostling to be at the centre is because power is concentrated at the centre; but when you restructure and you weaken the centre then people have to go back and use their ingenuity and creativity to develop the various regions like it used to be in the days of our fore fathers. That is the way to go.”
