Attempted sea robbery recorded in Nigerian waters
Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, has said that there was an attempted sea robbery in Nigerian waters.
A statement by Osagie Edward, Head, Public Relations, of the Agency said that its officials monitoring the situation at the C4i center on Tuesday, April 21, 2025 “noted an illegal boarding of a Marshall Islands-flagged chemical tanker ‘Sea Panther’ southwest of Brass, Nigeria.”
The statement said this the incident was “the first of such attempted sea robbery in Nigerian waters since 2021” and that “four individuals boarded the vessel and made away with some personal items of crew members.”
It stressed that all crew members of the vessel are safe and that “MT Sea Panther has since sailed off Nigerian waters safely.”
The statement also assured that “NIMASA is working closely with relevant security agencies and further investigations into the incident are ongoing.”
The C4i Centre stands for Command, Control, Communication, Computer, and Intelligence Centre, and is a critical component of the Deep Blue Project of NIMASA.
According to Osagie, the C4i Centre plays a key role in intelligence gathering and data collection, contributing significantly to securing Nigeria’s maritime domain and has resulted in the country maintaining a zero piracy incident in over 24 months.
