Today’s Appeal Court ruling: Stay calm, law-abiding, whatever the decision, PDP Governors tell members, Nigerians

The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum PDP-GF under the chairmanship of the Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has called on the party’s members and supporters to be calm and law-abiding as the party awaits the ruling of the Appeal Court today, Monday, March 9, 2026, on the leadership crisis rocking the party.

The Forum, in a statement in Abuja by Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, its Director General, said that the party respects the judicial process and is committed to peace, and, therefore, urges its members, supporters and all Nigerians to remain calm and disciplined in their reactions to the ruling, whatever the decision may be.

It insisted that “our collective response must reflect maturity and a deep respect for the rule of law,” pointing out that all the party’s members and leaders must show maximum restraint, and be calm and law-abiding before, during and after the judgment, since “leadership will meet immediately to review the judgment and chart the necessary post- judgment line of action.”

The Governors noted that “Democracy thrives on diversity of voices, competition of ideas, and the ability of citizens to choose from credible alternatives.” They assured that “the PDP will continue to embody these values,” and therefore called “on all members with political aspirations to contest the 2027 general elections to have faith in the party’s ability to provide the party’s platform that will ensure their electoral victories.”

Notwithstanding that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has already published the timetable for the general elections, the PDP Governors’ Forum insisted that the party will ensure the protection and realization of the political ambitions of their members.

“Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the PDP remains resolute in its mission to provide Nigerians with a strong, credible, and people-centered alternative. No ruling can erase the will of Nigerians for a fair and competitive political system. We are prepared to participate fully in the democratic process, ensuring that the voices of the people are heard and respected,” the Governors assured.

The Forum equally noted that “we stand at a defining moment for our democracy,” that “the judiciary, as the custodian of justice, carries the weight of ensuring fairness, impartiality, and the preservation of national stability,” and concluded that “the judiciary has always remained the only impartial and people-oriented arm of government whose tireless defense of the constitution has ensured the stability of our democratic governance.”
