The Chairman,Ward Development Committee (WDC) of Kafin Madaki, in Ganjuwa local government area of Bauchi state, Mustapha Ibrahim has called on health authorities in the state to provide condoms to married men in order to encourage child spacing and family planning .
Mustapha Ibrahim disclosed this while speaking to pressmen on the activities of CBS in the area, saying that the program has been well accepted by people in Kafin Madaki.
According to him,”we as a Committee have embarked on serious awareness creation among the people and the program has been well accepted, men now come out publicly to demand for supply of condoms to support their wives but unfortunately for now, the commodity here is out of stock”.
The WDC chairman added that men have come to understand that child birth spacing is important considering the economic situation of the country and said that the situation is very encouraging as maternal and infant mortality and morbidity rates have positively improved in the areas.
He also called on the BASPHCDA to supply CBS commodities including condoms to the facility so that the clients can access the services.
The Chairman said that the secret behind the increase in women accessing family planning services now is that as community leaders they have embarked on door to door campaign to sensitize the women and their spouses on the need for them to access the services.
