The Abia Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has urged motorists to drive responsibly and adhere to road traffic regulations during the festive season.
A statement by the Sector Commander, Mrs. Ngozi Ezeoma, on Wednesday, in Umuahia, also urged passengers to prioritise road safety as they travel to different parts of the state by speaking out against dangerous driving.
Ezeoma said: “It is important to remind all commuters that road safety is a shared responsibility and in view of that, I implore you to speak out against dangerous driving, because speed kills more passengers than drivers.
“Motorists are hereby advised to avoid excessive speed, overloading, route violation, drunk driving, use of worn-out or expired tyres, mix loading, use of mechanically deficient vehicles, road obstruction, wrong parking, road rage and any form of traffic infractions”.
She expressed the determination of FRSC to accomplish its mandate of reducing road traffic deaths and injuries by 5 per cent.
Ezeoma restated the commitment of the Command to ensure effective road traffic management and safety administration in Abia.

Ezeoma commiserated with the families of the eight persons that died in the fatal road crash that happened on Sunday along Mmuri River axis in Ohafia Local Government Area of the state.
“I implore the families to draw some measures of comfort knowing that we share in their grief and may they accept our heartfelt condolences as our hearts and prayers go out to them at this trying time,”she said.
Ezeoma also facilitated Christians and prayed that they would have a Christmas filled with joy and blessings and a prosperous New Year ahead.
