Coalition appeals for Buhari’s protection of Cross River State electorate, redeployment of DCP Operations

By Sixtus Uket (Calabar)

A coalition of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Support Groups in Cross River State has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure that the lives of the electorate in the State are protected before, during and after the 2023 general elections in the State.

The Coalition made the call Saturday, while speaking with the media at the party’s secretariat, Mary Slessor Avenue, Calabar, the State capital.

Speaking, on behalf of the groups, Dr. Don Clemz Enamhe, said the appeal was imperative because of the alleged plans by some security agencies, especially the Police to intimidate and harass the electorate to prevent them from voting for the party in the forthcoming general elections in the State.

Dr. Enamhe also called on the Inspector General of Police to immediately redeploy the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Operations, DCP Francis Idu from the State.

“We are calling on the Inspector General of Police to immediately redeploy DCP Operations, DCP Francis Idu from the State.

“His history in Enugu and Ebonyi States where he served before being posted to Cross River State is here with us.

“The role he played during the Cross River State Northern Senatorial District bye-election is known to all and still very fresh in our minds,” he stated.

The PDP stalwart however, noted that, in a case where DCP Francis Idu would not be transferred, he should not be involved in any election duty in the State.

He added that, the party would contain any Policeman who would want to intimidate the electorate on the day of elections.

Dr. Enamhe explained that Cross River State is a PDP State and that the party would win the forthcoming elections in the State.

“The State belongs to PDP and the members of the party are law abiding citizens and the party is not afraid of losing any election.

“We will not be intimidated, and we will win APC flat before 12:00 p.m,” the Coalition of PDP Support Groups assured.

He thanked journalists in the State for their commitment to truth in spite of the intimidation and harassment faced in the discharge of their duties.
