


Four persons have so far been rescued from the collapsed four-storey building in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Akwa Ibom State confirmed.
The collapsed four-storey building located at Iman Street was still under construction when it fell flat, trapping a yet to be ascertained number of persons.
In a swift response, the Akwa Ibom State Government has mobilized critical rescue and security agencies (Police, DSS, Fire Service) to the scene with technical support from some construction Companies (Julius Berger and Amitek).
The Secretary to State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr. Bassey Okon and other Government officials were at the scene of the incident.
The four persons rescued have since been taken to the Hospital while rescue operations are still ongoing to help other trapped individuals.
As of the time of this report, the identity of the owner of the property is still unconfirmed while eyewitness testimonies allege poor block composition as one of the reasons for the collapse.
