Barkindo Nigeria Ltd., a construction company handling the concrete Pedestrian Bridge that snapped in Garki, Amaechi Awkunanaw area of Enugu State, has taken full responsibility and apologised to the state and residents.
This was contained in a letter addressed to the Enugu State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, dated June 15, 2020 and signed by the Director of the Project, Chidiebere Mbachu.
The letter, obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Enugu, reads: ” we tender our unreserved apology to the people and government of Enugu state.”
They described the incident as very unfortunate, noting that no casualty was recorded but stated that the snap of the formwork took them by surprise.
“We have been responsive and maintained standard operational practice, especially during concreting.
”This is in line with the standard guidelines and specifications of Enugu state ministry of works and infrastructure.
“While reassuring you of our commitment toward completing the project as designed, we have put in place measures to mitigate any such occurrence in future.
“We will resume work accordingly as soon as we receive approval from the state ministry of works and infrastructure,” the contractor said.
NAN reports that the collapsed pedestrian bridge was located at Garki Awkunanaw in Enugu South Local Government Area of the state.
