A non‑governmental organisation, Olabode Youth and Women Initiatives (OYAWIN), on Wednesday distributed educational materials to 250 vulnerable primary school girls in Osun.School bags, sandals, textbooks, uniforms, writing materials, among others, were distributed to pupils in Ikire, Apomu and Ikoyi, in Isokan and Irewole Local Government Areas of the state.
In his remarks during the event in Ikoyi town, Mr. Moroof Olabode, Executive Director of the NGO, said the project aims to address key barriers to girls’ education and contribute to ending child marriage in the communities.
Olabode said the educational materials were distributed under the “Right to Be a Girl” initiative, supported by Mundo Cooperante.
According to him, education remains one of the strongest tools to prevent early marriage and improve the wellbeing and economic prospects of girls.
“Today’s activity is not merely the distribution of bags, sandals, books and writing materials.
“It is a clear statement of support for the rights, education and future of every girl in these communities.
“Through this intervention, we reaffirm that every girl deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and achieve her full potential.
” We acknowledge the unwavering support of our global partner, Mundo Cooperante, whose commitment continues to open doors of opportunity for girls worldwide.
“To the girls here today, you are the focus of this programme. Use these materials to stay committed to your education.
“Your dreams are valid, and your future is bright,” he said.
Olabode added that the NGO would continue to support the vulnerable school pupils.
He also said that the organisation would be coming back in a few weeks’ time to provide chairs and tables for all 250 beneficiaries and pay their school fees as part of efforts to remove financial obstacles affecting girls’ education.
Mrs. Olukemi Omotoso, who spoke on behalf of the other school principals, said that the distributed materials would assist parents who could not afford them due to financial constraints.
Omotoso urged the parents to complement the donors’ effort by ensuring they contribute their own share to the success of their children in the pursuit of education.
