Sokoto State Governor, Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal (CFR), has gone into self-isolation based on medical advise, in connection with coronavirus otherwise called COVID-19.
In a statement he personally endorsed, dated Friday, December 18, 2020, the one-time Speaker of the House of Representatives said that he is taking the action in view of the fact that in his recent official trips he had come “in close contact with some personalities, some of whom have tested positive to COVID-19.”
The Mutawallen Sokoto said he is, as a result, withdrawing “from official and physical engagements for the period prescribed by the COVID-19 protocols, with effect from Friday, Dec. 18, 2020.”
In his absence, the statement further said, the Deputy Governor of the State, “Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan’Iya (Walin Sokoto), will carry on all official functions as laid down in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
Governor Tambuwal said that during the period of seclusion, he would subject himself “to the prescribed testing procedure as required by the Sokoto State Task Force on COVID-19, the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) protocols,” promising to avail the public with the outcome of the test in due course.
He also urged the people of the State to adhere to and observe all protocols laid down by the relevant health bodies in the prevention and management of COVID-19, while soliciting their “usual prayers in these trying times.”
