Cross River: Coalition of opposition political parties endorse, collapse structures for Prof. Onor, PDP governorship candidate

By Sixtus Uket (Calabar)

Ahead of the March 18 Governorship and House of Assembly elections, the Coalition of Opposition Political Parties (COPPS) in Cross River State has formerly adopted and endorsed the Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Sandy Ojang Onor.

The Coalition comprising ten political parties in the State, said they decided to collapse their structures in support of Senator Onor’s candidacy after their extra-ordinary meeting held yesterday to review state of affairs in the state.

The political parties include, ADC, ZLP, AA, APGA, APP, APM, NRM, ADP, BP and Accord.

The endorsement of the Coalition of Political Parties came in less than 48 hours after Senator Sandy Onor secured the endorsement of notable religious and social-clutural and political groups including the Ejagham Stakeholders Forum (ESHF) and Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN).

In a statement issued Friday in Calabar, Cross River State capital, the chairman of the COPPs, Mr. Ntami Esege, said, “the decision to team up with the PDP candidate is to support the man with the right credentials to lead the state to an enviable height.”

Mr. Esege also explained that the decision to support the PDP candidate was arrived at after a careful assessment of all the candidates with focus on competence, capacity and character.

He pointed out that: “Onor’s antecedents placed him above every other candidate for the job of leading the state for the next four years.”

“Conscious of what the State has gone through in the last eight years, we unanimously resolved to support a man with the right credentials to lead the State to an enviable height,” he stated.
