POEM: Race and Religion By Ozichukwu Chukwu

Nze Fidelis Ozichukwu Chukwu

I’m torn between Race and Religion,
For both have spilled innocent blood,
So with Tribe and Tongue,
With them, God is distant.
His Race is Mankind
His Religion is Love.

If God’s at war
Humankind will not dare
Creatures of inordinate ambition
Native of abominations
With Eve in Eden,
Others of Babel,
Our God is sufficient unto Himself,
Needs neither help nor protection,

These purveyors of the obscene,
The smash and grab,
City masquerades, Urban gorillas,
Make fun of all, ATMs of all times.
Devils incarnate
Attach not the sewing of seed
To the salvation we need.

Of what complexion is God,
What Form, Creed or Gender,
What Tribe or Tongue do you to Him ascribe,
He’s All Good,
Omnipresent,
Omnipotent,
Omniscient,
Our Creator,
Made you co-creator,

If you understand,
Don’t grandstand.
Humankind you may confuse;
God you can’t deceive.
In your quest for the Rupture,
Limit your overtures,
Don’t ever torture.

God is one in origin,
Incorporeal and Sovereign,
Transcendent and Immanent,
Immutable and Impassible,
Impeccable and Incomprehensible,
God’s Infinite and more.
Humankind was want to admit the attributes of Trinity and Veracity,
Modes of worship in between,
Evolve a devil-may-care,
Invented friends and foes,
Ever since, began the woes,

On the prowl, are merchants of death
At once in quest for wealth.

Religion and Race parted ways,
Yet Peace and Freedom are tied to both;
Hypocrisy and Tyranny,
Humankind their captive remains,
Condemned to perpetual siege
To grief and grime

A world of Equal Rights
Indifferent to Creed, Complexion, Tribe and Tongue,
Of perfect blend and contentment,
To share and care

When Day and Night, Justice prevails, tranquility reigns,
With the Blacks, Whites and Coloured a peaceful dialogue.

All complexes vanish, wars will be over and
Flowers blossom in a storm-free-world.

Shooting stars we observe, what impact, how would one Place, Price and Praise ?
In the trial of the gods, a mix of justice and compassion, competition and cooperation, even complimentality,
Supremacy of races are in circles, life is eternity.

Imagined races are coming, times, ways and means are changing,
Fleeting Vanity, Transient Power,
Race and Religion, Embrace Unity in Diversity,
There’s joy in chorus, beauty in colors,
Beauty is harmony
“That they may be one in Us.” Jn 17:12

Our God is Whole and Perfect,
Bright as the Sun,
Snow White, in nature and in name.
Evil, will not contemplate;
Nor with the Devil compromise.
