Vice President Kamala Harris has conceded defeat in the U.S. presidential election to Donald Trump in an emotional speech to her supporters, many of who were shedding tears as she spoke.
Harris, who was bidding to become the first female president of the US, told supporters that she had spoken to Trump and congratulated him.
“Earlier today, I spoke with President-elect Trump and congratulated him on his victory.
“While I concede this election, I do not concede the fight that fuelled this campaign,” she said, defiantly.
She assured that there would be a peaceful transfer of power, a veiled reference to Trump’s attempt to stop the inauguration of Joe Biden as President.
Harris also stressed that loyalty must not be to any individual, president or party but to the Constitution of the United States of America.
The first female Vice President of America, who ran a vigorous and exciting presidential campaign in 107 days following the exit of President Biden from the race insisted that the light of America’s promise will always burn bright, urging her supporters to keep fighting for the issues that dominated her campaign.
Trump was able to regain the White House after securing victories in the key swing states of North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, U.S. broadcasters projected earlier on Wednesday.
