Kinsmen of President Goodluck Jonathan in Otuoke Community of Bayelsa state and the Governor Seriake Dickson led government have concluded plans to host the President and his wife, Dame Patience to a civic reception in Yenagoa upon their arrival from Abuja after the hand-over of power ceremonies on Friday.
Briefing newsmen in the state capital, Wednesday, Commissioner for Information, Barrister Esueme Kikile, said the reception was necessary because in the past seven years the outgoing president had served the nation meritoriously and deserved to be honoured.
Kikile said that President Jonathan was expected to arrive Yenagoa on Friday afternoon by 3pm accompanied by his wife and other top government functionaries.
He said the government and people of the state are proud of him as their beloved son who has represented them very well.
According to the commissioner, the hosting of Mr. President by his kinsmen is to demonstrate that Bayelsans love him and also demonstrate the gratitude of Bayelsans to Nigerians for the honor done him by giving him the opportunity to lead the nation.
“The government and the people of Bayelsa state feel proud to celebrate him as the former president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” she stressed, pointing out that the reception would take place at the state’s Cultural Centre, Yenagoa while later the president would be received by his kinsmen at Otuoke community.
The Commissioner also used the opportunity to thank the people of the South/South region for the support given to President Jonathan while he served the country.
Kikile said that as part of the home-coming ceremonies, the state government would also organize an inter denominational church service at the Saint Peters Anglican Church, Yenagoa on Saturday and a banquet luncheon same day in the evening.
