
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has affirmed his faith in the miracle of God and utmost adherence to diligence to bail the state out of the present economic situation which is also affecting the entire country.
The governor referring to the biblical miracle of five loaves and two fish to feed the multitude, noted that no matter the plans to encounter the effects of the meltdown, there is a need for prayers for God’s intervention even as he called all stakeholders in the state to key into his administration’s recourse to diligence and careful considerations of options before it in handling economic and other state matters.
Speaking on the occasion of the send-forth of the Government House Chaplain, Rev. Father Sylvester Nwodo, at the Government Lodge, Governor Ugwuanyi noted that he would not relent in his prayers to surmount challenges facing the state.
He commended the outstanding performance of the priest, adding that his administration would continue to partner the church to ensure God’s guidance in all government activities.
Earlier in a sermon, the vicar-general of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu, Monsignor Obiora Ike, urged Christians to continue to pray for people in helm of affairs. He thanked the Catholic Bishop Emeritus of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Anthony Okonkwo Gbuji for introducing chaplaincy in the State Government House, Enugu to give the governor and aides the spiritual backing and upliftment.
In their separate speeches, the immediate past governor of Enugu State, Chief Sullivan Chime, the Speaker Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon Edward Ubosi commended the cordial relationship existing between the government of Enugu State and the church, adding that government and the church should join hands for the wellbeing of the people.
In a speech, the outgoing chaplain, Father Nwodo, thanked the state government and the Bishop of Enugu Catholic Diocese for giving him the opportunity to serve.
He added that though he was out of Government House, the cordial relationship between him and the state government would continue to grow. His successor in a remark assured that he would continue to partner the state government for its spiritual upliftment.
The event attracted top government officials including the deputy governor of the state, Hon Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo and Senator Chuka Utazi.
