The Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has directed the termination of the appointment of the Director General, Department of State Service (DSS), Lawal Daura, with immediate effect.
The information is in a statement issued by the acting President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Laolu Akande in Abuja on Tuesday.
Daura, who was summoned to the presidential villa by the acting President few minutes before his sack, was directed to hand over to the most senior officer of the DSS until further notice.
The statement read: “The Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has directed the termination of the appointment of the Director General, State Security Service, Lawal Musa Daura, with immediate effect.
“Mr Daura has been directed to hand over to the most senior officer of the State Security Service until further notice.’’
No reason was given for the termination of the appointment of the DSS boss.
NAN, however, learnt that the termination of Daura’s appointment might not be unconnected with the ongoing blockage of the National Assembly by operatives of the DSS and the Police.
In a related development, Prof. Osinbajo, has said that the blockade was unauthorised and condemned it as a gross violation of constitutional order, rule of law and all accepted notions of law and order.
He said that the unlawful act which was done without the knowledge of the Presidency was condemnable and completely unacceptable.
A statement by Laolu Akande, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity on Tuesday in Abuja, said Osinbajo assured Nigerians that anybody involved in the act would be punished.
“All persons within the law enforcement apparatus who participated in this travesty will be identified and subjected to appropriate disciplinary action,’’ the statement said.
The acting president had earlier sacked the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Lawal Daura over the incident.
Daura has also been asked to handover to the most senior person in the secret service.
Daura was appointed to head the agency on 2 July following the sacking of Ita Ekpeyong by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Sixty four year old Daura had worked in the agency in the past and had retired.
