The Federal Government has officially declared tomorrow, March 29, and Monday, April 1, as public holidays to observe Good Friday and Easter Monday for this year’s Easter celebrations.
Interior Minister, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo made the announcement on behalf of the government, as conveyed in a statement by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Aishetu Ndayako, in Abuja.
Minister Tunji-Ojo highlighted the significance of Easter, noting that it extends beyond religious observance to promote values of love, forgiveness, and compassion. He emphasised that these values are crucial for fostering social cohesion and harmony within society.
He called on Christians to imbibe these virtues as they are capable of impacting positively on the socio-economic development in Nigeria by fostering unity, reducing conflicts and encouraging cooperation among Nigerians.
He further urged Nigerians to show acts of charity and generosity to help alleviate the material conditions of the less privileged amongst them.
This, he said, is in tandem with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
While wishing Christians at home and abroad a happy and blissful Easter celebration, the Minister also called on Nigerians to join hands with President Tinubu-led Administration in its determination to bring sustainable development and usher in prosperity for all.
Additionally, the minister urged Christians to embrace these virtues, stressing their potential to positively impact Nigeria’s socio-economic development. He emphasised that practicing love, forgiveness, and compassion can contribute to fostering unity, reducing conflicts, and promoting cooperation among citizens.
