BY ABDULLAHI ISAH, MAIDUGURI
The Executive chairman of the Borno State Road Maintenance Agency (BORMA), Engineer Ahmed Satomi has said that the agency is going to embark on “Operation Zero Potholes” within the Maiduguri Metropolis and other major cities of the state.
Briefing newsmen shortly after taking over the mantle of leadership of the agency, Engineer Satomi said “we are going to embark on Operation Zero Potholes across the metropolis and some major cities of the state to ensure that all potholes are eliminated”
“In order not to create traffic jam to the motorists we are going to use the opportunity of the curfew imposed on the city, from 10:00pm to 1:00pm daily until we repair the potholes across the state.
He said “the exercise will start from High Court complex to Bama road, then Jiddari polo to Federal High court, we are going to also move to the Southern Borno. We will also ensure that potholes are eradicated in Biu. To achieve this, we have established a zonal office in Biu to take care of this”.
He further stated that the agency will also embark on the reconstruction of all failed roads across the metropolis to ease the hardship of motorists, adding that they are also considering the option of introducing toll gates at the entrance of the city.
Satomi said “with the earth moving equipment we have in the agency, as adjudged by the former minister of Works, we wouldn’t mind registering the Agency as a company to bid and secure road construction contracts from other states and the Federal Government in order to boost the revenue generation of the state.”
While thanking the governor for giving him yet another opportunity to serve Borno after successfully handling the issue of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Borno state Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), he said that as a civil engineer by training, he will work hard to justify the confidence reposed on him by Governor Shettima.
