Amb. Okoyen presents Letters of Credence to Governor-General of The Bahamas




The brief but colorful ceremony took place at the Government House, Nassau on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 with Ambassador Okoyen, holding brief discussions with the Governor-General after the presentation ceremony.
During the meeting, Ambassador Okoyen thanked his host for accepting his nomination as High Commissioner-designate to the Bahamas and extended the warm greetings, and personal best wishes of Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari, to the Governor-General and the people of the Bahamas.
He also expressed commitment towards deepening the bilateral ties between Nigeria and The Bahamas, including in the areas of the conclusion of pending cooperation agreements of the Technical Aid Corps (TAC) and promotion of new areas in private banking, tourism and trade and investment.
While receiving his credentials, His Excellency Cornelius Alvin Smith warmly congratulated and welcomed Ambassador Okoyen to The Bahamas and wished him every success in his responsibilities as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. He further extended his warm greetings to President Buhari and expressed his government’s desire to move relations between the two countries higher during Ambassador Okoyen’s tour of duty in the Bahamas.
Ambassador Okoyen was also received by His Excellency Honourable Philip E. Davis, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas in a courtesy call at his office.
In the meeting, the Nigerian High commissioner informed the Prime Minister of his mandate from President Buhari to assiduously work to give practical meaning to the bilateral relations by expressing willingness to work with the authorities of the Bahamas to strengthen the relations between both countries.
The Prime Minister assured Ambassador Okoyen of his support and recalled his recent meeting with President Buhari in Rwanda and extended his personal greeting to the Nigerian President.
At the end of the presentation ceremony, the Nigeria High Commissioner also met with the leadership of the growing Nigerian community in The Bahamas who promised to support and work with the High Commission to offer effective service to the community.
His Excellency Benaoyagha B.M. Okoyen is Nigeria’s Ambassador to Cuba with concurrent accreditation to The Bahamas, Nicaragua, and Honduras.
