A group, Ikoro Mbaise Global Forum (IMGF), has commended the organizers of the #EndSARS protests in Nigeria and described the youths that lost their lives at Lekki toll gate in Lagos as heroes.
The group, in a statement by Hon. Uzoma Nwagwu, its Secretary General, however, condemned gangsters, backed by security operatives, who caused mayhem to discredit the otherwise peaceful and well organized protests.
They also, specifically, condemned the setting ablaze of the Police stations in their home local government areas in Mbaise which were built, largely, with resources of patriotic Mbaise citizens and praised “Uvuru Mbaise youths for mounting security watch against the marauding hoodlums and Onicha Mbaise youths for their timely engagement to dislodge the miscreants from further damages.”
Full text of the statement reads:
The Ikoro Mbaise Global Forum having painstakingly monitored the over twelve days EndSpecial Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) protest in Nigeria, vehemently condemns in its entirety the denigration and setting ablaze of the police stations in the Local Government Areas of Aboh, Ahiazu, Itu –Ezinihitte, and other areas by hoodlums who invaded the areas. The torching of the three police divisions in Mbaise, at a time we witnessed the state governor’s inattentive position on the LGAs, his approval for relocation of educational facility from Mbaise, remains regrettable. We ask, who will rebuild the destroyed properties now? It is pertinent to remind all who watched
or participated in the destruction of the police stations in Mbaise that, to a large extent, these structures were built with resources and magnanimity of Mbaise patriotic citizens.
For the avoidance of doubt, the end SARS movement, a protest initiated by Nigerian Youths cuts across religious, ethnic, and tribe divides. We strongly note that the protest genuinely remains a struggle among those who have been at the receiving end of police brutality, a reaction to the culmination of years of epileptic leadership, a barbaric conscienceless government that has supervised genocide, ethnic cleansing, slaughtered, and destroyed the will of her own people. Under President Muhammadu Buhari’s watch, mayhem has been meted to ethnic harmless militias, yet Fulani herdsmen Jihadist and Boko Haram religious fanatics parade the hinterland with brazen confidence. We therefore wish to commend the sacrifice, and bravery of Nigerian youths. We reiterate in strong terms our solidarity for the Youths and stand with the good people of Nigeria in the ongoing struggle for the triumph of good over evil. The IMGF wishes to use this medium to condole with the families that lost lives, especially at the bizarre Lekki tollgate area massacre of innocent citizens. These youths will long be remembered as heroes in the campaign to salvage the bleeding hearts of our people, for good governance, justice, equity, and fair play in the geo-political entity called Nigeria.
It is noteworthy that the EndSARS protest will be adjudged well organized, protesters exhibited orderly conduct before security operatives, Organizers took care of people who needed water or food, made rescue and medical intervention arrangements for those brutalized. We therefore watch in utmost dismay footages streamed live of unmarked security cars dropping off gangsters, sponsored negative write-ups in social media, to cause mayhem and discredit the orderly agitation. We condemn these violent attacks sponsored by suspected acts of the establishment, and the attendant cheap propaganda aimed at divide and rule.
Based on this premise, we salute the thoughtfulness of Uvuru Mbaise youths for mounting security watch against the marauding hoodlums and Onicha Mbaise youths for their timely engagement to dislodge the miscreants from further damages. We implore all Mbaise people, Igbos, and Nigerians to be watchful, ready to confront sponsored agents of destabilization, as they go about their lawful duties, living without any fear of molestation or attack, and continue to promote love, peace and harmony in Mbaise land, Imo State, and Nigeria as a whole. Ikoro Mbaise Global Forum will not be slowed down, distracted, or intimidated. We will remain vigilant, vocal, determined and focused in the struggle to ensure peace, progress, and unity.
