Enugu State Economic Planning Commission has resolved to harmonize the issue of taxation in the state to ensure that the allegation of multiple taxation becomes a thing of the past in the state

In a press briefing at the end of the maiden meeting of the commission in the new administration chaired by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi at the Government House, Enugu, the State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Godwin Udeuhele, noted that an Inter-ministerial committee to harmonize the issue has been constituted, headed by the State Commissioner for Finance and co-chaired by the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry.

In a further explanation, the State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr. Sam Ogbu Nwobodo, with the Udenu local government council chairman, Mr. Amechi Nwodo, who accompanied the information commissioner in the briefing, said that though tax is statutorily mandated, when different agencies try to collect their revenues it will appear as if it is multiple taxation, hence the need to harmonize them.

Udeuhele added that the commission also approved the reconstruction of road from 9th Mile Corner, Ngwo through Abor and Umulumgbe in Udi local government area and Ukehe in Igbo-Etiti local government area.

According to the state’s information boss, after Governor Uguwanyi’s visit to that area, he directed that the road be reconstructed without further delay, adding that the said road would be financed by both the Udi local government council area and Igboetiti with the state government in the ratio of 70% for the state government and 30% for local governments affected.
