Emefiele debunks fake news on alleged plot against Tinubu
The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, has described as “completely false and malicious” a story in The Nation newspaper of Monday, March 13, 2023, alleging that he has launched a “fresh plot against President-elect.”
In a statement by Isa Abdulmumin, CBN’s Acting Director, Corporate Communications, the apex Bank said that the story, which went further to allege that the Governor has made certain amount of money available to a political aspirant ahead of the March 18, 2023 gubernatorial poll is fake in its entirety.
Mr. Emefiele “does not know and has never met or even spoken with Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour either in person or through proxy,” the statement stressed.
It reiterated that the CBN Governor does not take part in Politics and challenged anyone with contrary information to prove the Governor wrong to provide such facts, failing which it counseled that “the Governor and his team at the CBN should be allowed to focus on their assigned job with a view to achieving statutory mandates of the Bank.”
