There was panic Saturday night, when a patient at the Accident and Emergency ward of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH, Benin, allegedly stabbed himself to death.
The man who did not say why he took his own life was said to have been brought to the hospital accompanied by his wife who went outside to buy something from the shops close by.
It was said that he was waiting for a doctor to come and attend to him before he became violent, broke the louver glasses beside him and stabbed himself to death.
The development led to a protest by patients in the Ward who were apparently unhappy with the level of services being provided.
Another patient in the ward who witnessed the tragic incident but who pleaded anonymity, said : “the man suddenly became wild and broke a louvre beside his window and stabbed himself to death.
“His wife went out to buy something. There was blood everywhere. We were lucky not to have been injured.”
The Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Mr Joshua Uwaila, told our Correspondent that he is not aware of the incident, but sources confirmed that the remains of the man has since been moved to the morgue.
