Sokoto state governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has appealed for local solutions to local problems, even as he admitted that the devaluation of the Naira has greatly affected the purchasing powers of Nigerians.
The governor, who spoke before commencing the 9th State Executive Council meeting, Wednesday, at the Government House, further appealed to all and sundry to join hands with his administration to move the state forward economically.
“I also want to draw our attention to the fact that as representatives of the people, we must ensure that all decisions of the Council will guarantee delivery of democratic dividends, and be in line with the yearnings and aspirations of the electorates, who voted us into office as promised during our electioneering campaign.”
Continuing, the governor said his administration is working the talk as seen in the numerous programmes introduced to cushion the effect of the harsh economy, “amongst which includes the sales of rice and other food items at highly subsidized rates across the 23 local government areas of the state which is going on smoothly.
“The aim is to bring succor and relief to the people of the state following the removal of fuel subsidy and the devaluation of the Naira which has greatly disrupted the purchasing power of the citizens.
“This present administration will continue to do its best by introducing more programmes in order to provide local solutions to our local problems. However, there is need for people to continuously extend their support and prayers to the present administration for its success, so that collectively we can achieve the desired objectives of making the state competitive in all the sectors of the economy,” governor Ahmed appealed.
Meanwhile, briefing newsmen shortly after the council meeting, the state commissioner of information and orientation, Bello Muhammed Damchadi disclosed that they have approved the 950 million naira for the completion of the Sokoto state Independent Power Project.
The Sokoto IPP was initiated by former governor, now Senator Aliyu Wamakko during his second tenure and was abandoned by his predecessor, now Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal for the 8 years of reign.
