The Managing Director of Niger-Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Mr Nsima Ekere has launched a Digital Empowerment Initiative tagged, ‘ONEdigital’, a revolutionary digital training programme to empower Akwa Ibom youth on Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) amongst other skills.
The digital skills training programme, being the first of its kind in the state is aimed at linking the youth with happenings around the world after recognizing the enormous potentials ICT holds in addressing youth employment challenges; which translates into two out of every five young people across the world being unemployed or working but living in poverty.
The programme facilitator, Mr Philip Obin said on Wednesday in Uyo that, ”ONEdigital by Mr Nsima Ekere is to equip young Akwa Ibomites with digital skills to enable them get conducive and decent jobs.
”ONEdigital also seeks to leverage the growing potentials of the digital economy and demonstrating Nsima Ekere’s unparalleled commitment to the promotion of youth capacity building in Akwa Ibom state”.
He said, participants would learn what it takes to build a successful startup and become a skilled and knowledgeable Digital Entrepreneur adding that, the ONEdigital training is ideal for individuals who have the passion, creative energy, vision/insight to start and grow online business or those wishing to upgrade their curriculum vitae’ and employability
Meanwhile, the 2-Day training programme designed for youths between 15 – 35 years, resident in the state and own laptops, smartphones, valid ID Cards (National ID, Drivers License or Voters Cards) and can afford internet data, will cover courses on digital marketing, recharge and business, mobile money/mini banking business, bulk SMS/phone number generation.
Others are; setting up courier services company, professional blogging, graphics design and social media management amongst others, to be delivered at central locations across the three senatorial districts (Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Eket) closer to beneficiaries in the state.
Mr Obin said, the application is only available online now at www.onedigitalng.com or follow @ONEdigitalng, on Twitter and facebook for updates, and that only the successful applicants would be contacted with further information, while 310 beneficiaries (10/LGA) would be selected from the pool of applications from the website.
