The Chairperson, African Union Commission (AUC), Mahmoud Youssouf, has received the Letters of Credence of Ambassador Baak Wol, Ambassador of South Sudan to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Permanent-Representative to the AU.
Youssouf  disclosed this in a statement on Thursday on the AU’s website, against the backdrop of receiving Wol and commending the people of South Sudan for their resilience, saying the country has significant potential to achieve peace, stability and sustainable development.

According to him, South Sudan’s considerable natural and human resources position the country toward making more meaningful contribution to regional economic integration, and prosperity.

He also emphasised the centrality of inclusive, nationally owned dialogue as prerequisite for successful and credible transition, urging Wol to play an active role in advancing South Sudan’s engagement within the AU.

Youssouf in the statement quoted Wol to have expressed appreciation to him for his leadership and to the AU for its sustained support for peace, and stability in South Sudan, including through the C5-framework.

He also commended the Chairperson’s engagement and reaffirmed Sudan’s commitment to working closely with the AU in support of peace, reconciliation, and democratic transition.
