FG spends N8.9trn in six years on infrastructure development – Osinbanjo; Commissions Dakkada Towers in Uyo

Vice – President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has said that, Federal Government has spend a whooping N8.9trn on infrastructure development in the last six years.

Prof. Osinbajo disclosed this in Uyo , Akwa Ibom state capital on Friday at the inauguration of Dakkada Towers (21 storey Smart Building), built by the Akwa Ibom State Government, as part of the activities marking the 34th anniversary of the creation of the State.

He said, the building was complementary to the federal government’s plan on infrasturcture and economic development.

Osinbanjo stated that, the federal government has invested so much on infrastructure more than past administrations in the past six years .

He said: “I acknowledge the achievements of Governor Udom Emmanuel in industrialization and infrastructure in the completion agenda of his administration.

“The federal government on its own part, has spent N8.9 trn in the past six years on infrastructure alone. What Governor Udom Emmanuel is doing in Akwa Ibom state is complementing the federal government’s effort on both infrastructure and economic development”

The VP also declared Akwa Ibom state as the best in terms of infrastructure and economic development in both the South South and South East regions.

“I can recall when Governor Udom Emmanuel confided in  me that, he would build the tallest building in the South – South and South East regions.

” The building will address the problem of accommodation complained by the International Oil companies. And without wasting time they should relocate their administrative headquarters to Uyo”, he added.

The building, christened “Dakkada Towers” would serve  as a catalyst for the private sector to exploit various business opportunities in the state as it would also complement government’s effort in improving the living standards of the people.

The VP, on arrival in the State stopped over at the site of Dakkada Housing Estate, along Airport Road in company of the Governor and other members of his entourage to perform a ground breaking ceremony for the new housing scheme, en route Uyo for the commissioning of the Smart Building at the Banking District at Udo – Udoma Avenue.

Earlier, Governor Emmanuel expressed delight over the completion of the project saying, he felt fulfilled as a result of the project’s completion.

He said that he was more excited than before for several reasons especially as those who expressed doubt that the project would be completed, the “naysayers” who thought that the project would be abandoned had been disappointed.

“The excuse by the International Oil Companies ( IOCs ), that there is no office accommodation in Akwa Ibom for them to relocate to has come to an end today by the commissioning of this building,” he further said.

The Governor took time to appreciate the Turkish contractor, for the cooperation in procurement of materials and technology transfer which helped in the speedy completion of the project.

Former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke and Senator Gabriel Suswam in their goodwill messages, commended the Governor for providing leadership to the people and for giving his people a State that is better than he met it, stressing that Governor Emmanuel represented the hope of the people of the State.

Top government functionaries present at the ceremony were Senators Bassey Albert, Akin Eyakenyi, SSA to the President on Niger Delta, Senator Ita Solomon Enang, Senator Emmanuel Ibok Essien, DG, Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority, Mr. Umana Okon Umana, Deputy Governor, Moses Ekpo, Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, former Military Governors of the State; Col. Muhammed Bako Rtd, Capt. John Ebiye Rtd., PDP National Legal Adviser, Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem, Speaker, AKHA, Aniekan Bassey, traditional rulers, State & National lawmakers and members of the political class in the State.
