Gombe branch of Fidelity Bank to be sealed over N200m tax evasion
With this action, the Executive Director, Tax Operations of the Gombe State Board of Internal Revenue, Mohammed Musa, told Journalists at the bank’s premises that if the Bank fails to respond within the next 30 days, the Board will have no option than to secure a court order and permanently seal the Bank.
According to Mohammed Musa, “Fidelity Bank has been violating our tax laws. We have been writing them severally and they have chosen to ignore our demand notices”.
He said, “There was no feedback from the bank after the last notice and if they fail to comply or get in touch with the Board, the next step that we will take is to go and get a court order and then come and seal the bank permanently”.
Severally efforts by our correspondents to get a response from staff of the branch office of the bank proved abortive as reporters were made to understand that only the bank’s cooperate headquarters has the mandate to respond to such matters.
The operation was carried out with armed Policemen, media and other relevant bodies.
It will be recalled that the Gombe State Board of Internal Revenue, through its Executive Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Damji, has embarked on a massive revenue drive to improve on the revenue base of the State and compliment allocations from the Federal Government.
