Gombe govt. to implement stringent measures against rampant road accidents

Following the incessant road accidents that have claimed the lives of many on a popular road in Gombe metropolis, Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya says Government plans to introduce and implement more stringent measures that will help in curbing road traffic accidents in the State.

The Governor stated this in a condolence message to families of ten persons who lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident involving two trucks, an 18 sitter bus and a tricycle (Keke NAPEP) last Tuesday afternoon.
The ghastly motor accident which claimed the lives of six persons on the spot on the Gombe/Biu bye pass road also had ten others sustaining various degrees of injuries and currently receiving treatment at different hospitals within Gombe, the State capital.
It was later gathered in the Gombe state Specialist Hospital that three others died at the hospital.
The message which was signed by the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Ismaila Uba Misilli, said the Government is planning to introduce and implement some stringent measures that will curb the rampant road accidents on the popular Gombe Biu bye pass road.
The Governor while calling on operators of heavy duty vehicles and motorists in general to obey road safety regulations in order to safeguard lives and properties of the people, expressed sadness over the recurrence of traffic accidents involving articulated vehicles around the same axis of the metropolis.
He then prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and for the quick recovery of the injured. The Secretary to the Gombe State Government (SSG), Professor Abubakar Njodi, was among hundreds of sympathizers who partook in the Muslim funeral prayer of some of the deceased.
