Gombe plans reward for outstanding youth

Gombe State Government has inaugurated a nine man committee to identify distinguished youths of the State to be recognized during the First Gombe State Youth Achievers Award for Excellence.

The nine man committee which has Malam Abubakar Tata as chairman and Wakaye Maxwell as secretary has four weeks to submit its report after which the award presentation will be organized.

According to the State Commissioner, Ministry for Youth Empowerment, Malam Faruk Yarma, the service the committee members were about to render, was not just for the youths alone, but the entire State.

He said being leaders of tomorrow, the youths are the greatest asset any nation can have hence the need by the Gombe State Government through his ministry to recognize worthy youths who have excelled in different categories of human endeavour.

He said the committee’s terms of reference was to define philosophy and rationale for having the first Gombe state youth achievers award for excellence and to come up with various award categories.

They are also to formulate criteria for the selection into each category of the award as well as to identify and list beneficiaries who must have met the criteria.

Also speaking during the inauguration, Mr. James Pisagi, Acting Secretary to Gombe state Government said the aim of the award was to appreciate the works of young indigenes of Gombe both in the country and Diaspora.

He said the award will also create positive models, worthy of emulation by other youth just as the award will acknowledge youths as assets rather than a liability for investment and development in the state.

In his response, Abubakar Tata chairman of the committee assured that they will give in their best and finish the assignment within the time frame.
