Gov. Ahmed swears-in 9 more commissioners; calls for understanding over N20bn bond request

Kwara State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed has sworn-in the second batch of Commissioners for the State Executive Council with a call on the political class in the state not to politicize the N20bn bond his administration wants to secure from the capital market but focus on the capability of the bond facility to turn around the fortunes of the State.

According to the governor, the bond, if approved, will ensure the completion of infrastructural projects which will attract investors to the state, ensure growth of the economy and provide social and economic development for the state.

The governor explained that the state has capacity to afford the bond, adding that it will not impose any financial burden on the state and the administration’s discharge of its responsibilities to the people of the State.

“The loan is affordable and will not impose any financial burden on our state or hamper our capacity to meet our obligation to our people. Let me assure you that the state has the capacity to repay the bond with improved Internally Generated Revenue”, the reiterated.

The Governor noted that despite obvious challenges, his administration has remained on course in the discharge of its policy thrust of human capital development, economic diversification and infrastructural development.

“My administration is focused on creating prosperity for all in Kwara State. Every government draws legality from the lawful process through which it attains power, but more importantly through its capacity to create conditions for everyone to prosper, subject only to the limits of its capacity. Because this is mind, we are irrevocably commited to improving the lives of everybody who calls Kwara home”, the governor said.

He told the new commissioners that their appointments were based on their commitment and dedication to the growth of the state, adding that they should bring such qualities to bear on the discharge of their new responsibilities.

Responding on behalf of the new commissioners, Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Asiata Ayinka Saka promised that the new appointees will contribute their quota to the actualization of the Shared Prosperity Programme of the state government.
