Former governor of Sokoto State and Senator representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, Saturday paid condolence visit to Gidan Mangana village in Shagari local government area of Sokoto State where 29 persons died recently in a boat mishap.
29 teenage firewood hawkers, 23 females and six males, died when their boat capsized on Wednesday, April 14 on the Shagari River while searching for firewood.
Senator Wamakko, who was accompanied by the Executive Secretary, Police Trust Fund, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, former Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Yusuf Suleiman, amongst many other dignitaries in the State, urged the bereaved parents to take solace in God.
According to Senator Wamakko, God controls human affairs hence urging them to take solace in His verdicts. “Only Allah gives life and takes. As Muslims, we are therefore urged to accept Allah’s doing without contestation. All we can do is to pray for the repose of their souls.
“Though it’s painful that such young human beings all died in a single day, but what else can we do, hence Allah’s wish is always unquestionable and the best for us.”
While donating the sum of 2.9 million naira to the bereaved parents, Senator Wamakko also donated 100,000 naira each to the village head and the Imam of Gidan Magana.
Responding separately to the gesture when asked by our correspondent, one of the bereaved parents who preferred not to be named, said Senator Wamakko is one politician who has no equal in terms of care, grassroots mobilization and display of love for all and sundry as far as Sokoto State is concerned.
